At the Salzburg Festival on 12 August 2023, conductor Elim Chan impressed with a brilliant interpretation of Prokofiev and Rachmaninow with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra. “The Russian cultural heritage shone and sparkled”, according to the Salzburger Nachrichten. Chan presented a carefully handpicked selection from Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet” ballet suites and conducted them “rich in nuances and colours”, as reported by the Kurier. In the performance of Rachmaninov’s “Symphonic Dances”, the orchestra let the demanding work “sparkle, precisely, accentuated, splendidly resound”, as also reported in the Kurier. Chan’s eloquent conducting made the entire orchestra shine and was rewarded with enthusiastic applause from the captivated audience.
